Metuchen, New Jersey, has been a mecca for artists of every discipline for more than a century, and its annual Junebug ArtFest reinforces our central NJ community as one that nurtures all forms of creativity and is a true "home" for the arts. Join more than 75 visual artists and dozens of performing artists at Metuchen's month-long arts celebration every Friday evening in June.

The third annual festival features a range of activities throughout downtown Metuchen, including open air exhibits, window galleries, live music, interactive art events and open-mic sessions featuring poets and performers.

Highlights from the 2010 Junebug schedule include:

• More than 75 artists from all over NJ and several local states, exhibiting a range of visual work (paintings, ceramics, stained glass, photographs)
• Unveiling of the 2010 “Junebug Sculpture”; this work of local artist John Shersick will be revealed on June 4, 2010 at 7:00 pm and will preside over the ArtFest throughout the event
  
• Musical performances, featuring Brazilian to Blue Grass to Classic Rock
  
• Interactive events each Friday evening in front of Borough Hall, including:
  • Dance showcases, featuring genres such as Spanish, Zumba and Creative Movement
  • An evening sponsored by the Garden Club of Metuchen; create your own garden with paper flowers and watch them grow right in front of your eyes
  • An international mask-making workshop facilitated by Machiko Caputo, artist and owner of ABC Art Club
• Family Friendly Activities:
  • Local musician and children's entertainer Michael Napolitano,
    from "Preschool of Rock," will be on hand to make music
    with kids of all ages
  • The popular “chalkwalk” near Boro Hall
  • The opportunity to draw, paint or photograph a tow-truck, courtesy of local business Express Automotive
    
• Short films about Master Artists screened outdoors during the first three Fridays.
• Sidewalk “Master Artist Impersonators” – be on the lookout out for Norman Rockwell, Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo!
  

Begun in 2008, the Junebug Artfest is an annual FREE event—co-sponsored by the Metuchen Chamber of Commerce and the Metuchen Cultural Arts Commission and supported by the business community of Metuchen. The ArtFest is NOT a street-fair; it is a genuine art festival, where makers and performers share their creations and visitors have an opportunity to experience art of all types.
